Federal elected officials should spend less time focusing on re-election and more time doing the jobs that they have been elected to perform. Campaigns have become decadent and wasteful distractions, and the money and resources devoted to them could be put to better use. To remedy this, (1) create a publicly-funded campaign coffer from which each candidate will receive an allotted sum that is equal to the amount(s) received by his/her rival(s), (2) limit the allotted sums received by each candidate such that they cannot exceed $1,000,000, (3) mandate a publicly-visible accounting of these allotted funds, and (4) limit all campaigning to take place only during the 90 days preceding the election date.
