Federal legislation to ban the horrific practice of horse slaughter is needed now. It is well documented that horse meat is unsafe. Most horses are medicated with highly toxic drugs that are impossible to regulate. Over 80% of the public, the HSUS, the ASPCA are opposed to horse slaughter and support this bill.
Slaughtering horses rarely ends in quick, painless deaths, as horses often endure repeated blows and many times remain alive during their dismemberment. If this bill isn't passed, hundreds of thousands of horses a year will be cruelly transported for up to 2 days at a time without water, food, or rest, only to be led to an excessively inhumane death.
