The United States is currently providing significant support for the Ukrainian government which is being run by Ukrainian nationalists who recently seized power. Although it is true that Russia's apparent expansionist policy is not desirable, the Ukrainian nationalists are hardly a good candidate for the United States to arm. Many of them have significant sympathies for the former Nazi third reich and are indeed guilty of extensive violence and discrimination against minorities within their country.
It would seem that the United states would want to consider the consequences it endured by similarily arming the taliban to fight the russians in the 1970s. While the Russians may be wrong, the Ukrainians are not a better evil.
