There hasn't been a better time to discuss with the Secretary of the Air Force about bringing back Warrant Officers (WO) in the United States Air Force (USAF), especially as the USAF enters an uncertain financial future and total force size. I believe by appointing WO, in select few strategic/critical career fields within the USAF, some important issues of personnel management and personnel retention can be address during this time of uncertainty. The WO career track can be a tool for retaining important skill sets within the USAF. This is critical during the E6 to E7 transition, where those personnel become more of a manager, than a technical expert in their career fields. This usually translates into disillusioned E6/E7’s seeking civilian employment to keep active in their career fields.
