America back in the middle of the 20th century had one of the greatest rail system on the planet. However, due to our attention elsewhere, our system is heinously inadequate in comparison to our fellow nations such as Japan, Germany, The United Kingdom and others. While the farmer is our backbone, the railroad, like the highways that cross our nation, is an important vein capable of moving more than what could safely be moved on our highways.
I have several solutions to get our nation's line back on track:
1.) Expand our nation's High Speed Rail network beyond the Northeast Corridor.
2.) Grant Amtrak a higher budget to operate.
3.) Enforce FRA regulations to better track quality.
4.) Raise the bar in energy-efficient locomotives.
It's time to fix a crippling transportation problem.
