Please help us stop the NYC DOE from removing the #2 school in the state for 30 years to make room for a charter school.

Created by N.M. on February 27, 2013

NYC Department of Education notified PS 122 in Astoria, Queens, NY with 1,400 pupils last week that they plan to remove the 30 year old Gifted & Talented program by 2019 to a different school in LIC, making that school an all chartered school. Why would anyone destroy a district to gentrify one neighborhood? For over 30 years the Academy for the Intellectually Gifted has produced some of NY's brightest minds. The vast majority of these students come from immigrant families that are either low or lower middle income households. Where 100% of the students meet or exceed the standards in English Language Arts and Mathematics based on the NY State Math & ELA test results. Please help us save public time tested schools that are getting phase out to make room for charter schools.
