In a brave, desperate and unorthodox move animal rights activists, animal enthusiasts and dog lovers petitioned The White House to stop the barbaric slaughter of dogs in what they call "a bloody celebration.“ An event held yearly and considered a tradition in Yulin, Guangxi and other provinces across China. Unfortunately, not enough signatures were attained for passage.
This is not a question of east versus west, and culture and tradition should never be accepted as an excuse for cruelty and barbaric practices. China is on the International stage--it has the opportunity to show they will no longer turn a blind eye to this tradition and will respect the changing social norms all over the world!
