The Department of Veterans Affairs Education Benefits department hotline is understaffed. When veterans call the GI Bill hotline to ask questions about their housing and tuition payments which they earned, a recording states that the VA is too busy and to call back at a later date. Other times, the recording offers to schedule an appointment for the veteran to speak with someone the following week. When veterans are able to speak with a representative, the wait times on the hotline exceed 60 minutes. Student veterans earned their education benefits and we should at least staff enough individuals to answer veterans' questions about their benefits. Having a recording tell veterans that they are too busy and rescheduling the following week just to speak to a representative is unacceptable.
