Dear Mr. President,
Our world is possibly the only one in the entire Universe that inhabits life. We have a moral, existential obligation to protect it from threats within and threats outside of it. The recent incident of Meteorite in the Urals region of Russia and the closest to earth yet passing of the 2012 DA 14 Asteroid are two of the many examples which remind us that these threats though easily ignorable pose perhaps the most potent threat to our existence, far beyond any country in this world is capable of.
Please provide grants for research and development in this area so we can detect asteroids/other objects on collision course with Earth and be able to do something about it. Alternatively implore congress to pass laws to make it one of the national security priorities.
