Transgender, intersex & gender non-conforming individuals make up a small portion of the population of the United States, but that shouldn't mean that we're not important. I have been privy to some pretty horrible cases of discrimination, including denial of medical care, denial of housing and restriction from bathrooms that match with the gender presentation just because we were born in the wrong body and following medical or psychological advice, transitioned from our birth sex to something else.
There are laws being written around the country denying us rights, but laws like a trans-inclusive ENDA must be passed to prevent further discrimination. We also have many special medical needs that were not addressed in the ACA. We must make sure that trans people get the respect we deserve.
