Please refrain from vilifying firearms and those who responsibly own and use them

Created by J.W. on December 17, 2012

Mr. President, the active shooter incident in Newtown, CT was not the fault of the weapons used. The weapon is an inanimate object. It is very similar to a car, cigarette, or alcoholic beverage in that it will only bring harm if misused. It makes no sense to vilify an inanimate object as it requires human interaction to work. It makes even less sense to vilify and penalize the vast, overwhelming majority of firearms owners that "do the right thing". I am willing to bet a month's base pay that the FBI will inform you of the same. They will inform you that the baseball bat is responsible for more deaths than firearms. Don't blame the object or the person that properly handles the object. Blame the person that does the wrong thing. Vilify him or her regardless of the tools used.
