The Chinese government is now constructing a giant petrochemical plant in Pengzhou, a town located 30 miles northwest of Chengdu. However, there was no hearing, no debate faced the public before the government set up such a huge and dangerous project as to be a potential threat to this area, which is famous for tourism. Local residents now are worrying the plant would pollute the air and water, and question why the plant is being built in a region prone to earthquakes. Therefore, we present a petition to White House for urging the Chinese government to suspend the petrochemical plant until enough reliable assessments have been made by independent authorities and eliminate the common concerns about environmental pollution from local residents.
