The Communist Party of the Philippines has reformed itself from a violent organization to a primarily peaceful ones. Attacks attributed from the New People's Army has been reduced by 90% since the restoration of democracy in the Philippines in 1986.
Today, the Party is primarily an electoral one under the name Bagong Alyansang Makabayan and has successfully participated in congressional elections since 2001.
The current designation of it as a terror organization has a detrimental effect on the peace process since it has stigmatized the leadership into hiding.
Given the recent policy of the United States toward Cuba, maybe a change in direction is necessary in order to achieve lasting peace.
For the sake of the Filipino people, and its long lasting relationship with the United States.
