We are no longer in World War I where we needed to conserve coal. DST was designed to give people more time in sunlight, and to conserve energy—but many prominent studies have proven we get little if any benefits from the practice. Department of Transportation study in the 1970s concluded that total electricity savings associated with daylight saving time amounted to about 1% in the spring and fall months—and that was offset by the increase in air-conditioner use. We also are not doing the farmers any favors seeing as though they get up when the sun rises regardless. Let us stop the back and forth. Can we pick either DST on or off and be done with it?
