Stop the wasteful spending of US taxpayer dollars on projects in Afghanistan or other Middle Eastern Countries. The money is either stolen prior to reaching those who need it, the end project is never used due to the complexity of the systems installed relative to the locals technology level or the final project is taken over by the most powerful local in the area for his own purposes.
The social idealogy is so radically different that the, publically stated, intended aims of the US can not be met without an extended long term committment (100+ years). Unless the US is prepared to make a publically stated committment, then the billions spent overseas could be put to much better use shoring up the national infrastructure in the US and putting unemployed Americans back to work.
