Current medical privacy laws predate the existence of secure internet communications. As such, all medical personnel communicating with patients are required to utilize phone, physical mail, and fax only. It also means that direct transmission of electronic medical records between offices is often restricted, wasting time on re-entry even between offices in the same hospital.
Allowing the use of email and other forms of computerized communication would radically improve the quality and speed of Medical communication. It would avoid needless work interruptions, prevent back-and-forth voice messaging, allow for easier dissemination of records and paperwork, improve document handling, and improve the efficiency of scheduling.
Please revise these laws to reflect current technology.
