Please urge the U.S. to return stolen religious and family artifacts to the Iraqi Jewish Community

Created by C.H. on November 10, 2013

In 2003, U.S. troops found stolen Iraqi Jewish possessions in a flooded area of Saddam’s palace. The U.S. National Archives is preserving these religious artifacts dating back to the 1600s, personal belongings and family bibles. Iraq demands these items back, which would deny direct access to the rightful owners. After years of brutal persecution from the 1940s onward, Iraqi Jews fled or were executed. Some are now proud U.S. citizens. Entrusting personal and religious treasures to the country that eliminated its Jewish community is obscene, yet that is the current plan.
Please, help me urge Sec. of State Kerry & the State Department to reconsider. The U.S. should return these stolen items to their owners, the Iraqi Jewish Community. Help us keep the last pieces of our cultural heritage.
