Some in Congress are currently threatening to force a major financial crisis by refusing to let the executive branch borrow to fill the hole created by Congress' duly passed laws on taxation and spending. In order to avert a catastrophic loss of trust in the Full Faith and Credit of the US government, the President should stand ready to use any legal means, including coin seignorage, to ensure that the government continues to pay its bills on time. We cannot, as a democracy, accept government through extortion, in which a minority says, in effect, "Never mind that election, give us what we want or we'll destroy the economy for everyone."
