I want politicians (Congressional and Presidential) to resign their party affiliations when they take office, If they want to run for reelection they would show up on the ballot as incumbent. Both the Republican and Democratic party would be responsible for running a candidate against them. As the incumbent they would continue to do the job they were elected to without wasting half their term running for reelection. Any money left in their campaign fund would be forfeited to the Federal Government to reduce the Federal debt, once elected to national office they would not be able to except campaign funds . They would also be required to turn over control of their investments to the U.S. Government Accountability Office which would be responsible for contracting with a investment service.
