The US Congress is acting in a cowardly and mutinous fashion in their use of the sequester to do economic and social harm to US taxpayers. We suggest that a politicized version of the Roman discipline of decimation be brought to bear on the US Congress. All current members of the House of Representatives and the Senate should draw lots such that one in ten members are randomly selected. Selected members would be immediately removed from political office and will be prohibited from running for national political office for life. The remaining members of Congress should then be forced onto a ration of barley and left to sleep in canvas tents on the National Mall until replacement members of Congress can be elected from the decimated districts.
