Victoria Soto was the brave Sandy Hook teacher who hid her students in cabinets and closets when she heard the gunfire on December 14, then told the gunman that her students were at the gymnasium. Ms. Soto paid the ultimate price for her bravery and quick thinking, but each of her students was safe.
According to the White House website, the nomination period for 2012 Presidential Citizens Medals has expired. It would be a travesty to have her memory forgotten before the next nomination period begins. We, the undersigned, therefore petition the government to posthumously award Victoria Soto the Presidential Citizens Medal for her bravery and quick thinking in saving her students' lives with no thought for her own safety.
