On D-Day, June 6th, 1944, after having assumed command of Easy Company, 506th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division following the death of it's CO, then-Lieutenant Winters led an assault on an entrenched German artillery position that was firing on Normandy Beach. Heroically leading his team, he conducted an assault that is still taught as a textbook maneuver today, thereby saving the lives of countless troops landing on the beach. However, due to a ridiculous quota system that at the time allowed only one Medal Of Honor to be awarded per unit, Major Winter's award was downgraded to a Distinguished Service Cross. It is time to right this wrong, and honor a true American hero, as well as the men who served under him.
