Postpone the commencement of mandatory testing of the Common Core State Standards to the 2016- 2017 school year.

Created by K.W. on April 22, 2014

The Common Core State Standards for English and mathematics were introduced in 2010, and since then publishers and school districts have been scrambling to create textbooks and lessons that are aligned with the new expectations. With the mathematics standards, there were several major shifts in WHEN some topics were taught. Because of the pressure from the approaching testing, many districts rushed to put the new standards in place without a proper plan of phasing in some topics. This has resulted in gaps in students knowledge and understanding. With an extended assessment timeline, districts can take the extra time needed to ensure all students receive the quality instruction they deserve.
