A direct hit from a massive Coronal Mass Ejection from the Sun in the future is likely. If large enough, it could result in the destruction of our electrical grid, which would have far reaching implications for the economy and human life in the United States and around the globe.
The United States must take the necessary steps to prepare for such an eventuality. These steps may include, but are certainly not limited to, some of the following:
1) Protect the electrical grid.
2) Preemptively manufacture replacement parts (transformers, etc.) and have them located in relatively close proximity to existing resources so as to limit time to affect repairs.
3) Force financial institutions to harden their systems such that they can survive such an event and all the wealth is not destroyed.
