Retired U.S. Navy Admiral Michael Mullen has faithfully served the United States government for 46 years, During four years as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, he served as the principal military advisor to the President, the Secretary of Defense, the National Security Council and the Homeland Security Council. Admiral Mullen was instrumental in providing strategic direction on wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to these senior leaders. He also worked with President and Secretary of Defense to overturn "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." He currently sits as a member of the Foreign Affairs Policy Board, helping the Secretary of State, the Deputy Secretaries of State, and the Director of Policy Planning with independent, informed advice and opinion concerning matters of U.S. foreign policy.
