This petition seeks to preserve the A-10 Warthog in the U.S. Air Force's arsenal. The A-10 has proven very effective--especially for its low price tag--in the 1991 Gulf War, Afghanistan, and the 2003 Iraq War. The overwhelming consensus among ground troops is that they want the A-10 to continue to fly. Many ground troops--army and marines alike--claim that they feel safer when an A-10 is overhead. Although designed for 3rd generation warfare (Cold War style), it shines when performing an air support role in counterinsurgencies because of its low speed and loiter capability. It's mere presence sends hostile insurgents fleeing and silences their guns. It could also prove instrumental in an island hopping campaign as well fitting the "strategic pivot" to the pacific theater
