In 1998, Pennsylvania passed the Sunshine Act. This law makes it necessary for meetings within cities and boroughs to be open to the public, in order to eliminate any secrecy that would affect the trust between government and public. With the arrival of the new gas industry, Pennsylvania has been introduced to more expansion and environmental concerns. Now the Public Utility Commission has been granted an exemption from the Sunshine Act, and has the power to settle the use of zoning laws between the gas industry and municipality that tries to “slow” the process of the gas companies. The principle behind this act should be made national and enforced throughout the entire nation without any exemptions since the American trust has decreased over the years, thus preserving the American voice.
