Petitions on We the People that urge the President to respect second amendment rights are met by "responses" that distort the terminology and ignore the actual request of the petitioners. Such responses state that the President supports the rights of law-abiding Americans to own firearms and hunt, but that a reasonable balance must be reached.
This is not about hunting, and it is not about compromise -- so let's be clear: no restrictions on "assault weapons" (really, weapons which are not assault weapons, but resemble them). No new restrictions on "high-capacity magazines" (which, were designed as, and are referred to by the rest of the world as, standard capacity magazines). Pursue legislation that may actually result in meaningful protection of life, and not disenfranchisement.
