The 113th Congress got started with immigration. Both House and Senate are clearly indicating that "overhaul" and "modernization" of our immigration laws are overdue. Many parts of our immigration system will be addressed by Congress in a comprehensive bill. However, the largest single component of our current legal immigration framework - family immigration for the four main categories who, although totally legal, are enduring some infamous waiting time and have been heavily retrogressed in January 2011 - could be penalized again through a push mainly dedicated to fix the issue of the illegal immigrants. A fair reform can't be based upon demagoguery to please one part of the electorate. Legal immigrants are entitled to request a fair treatment and to see their backlogs fixed in priority.
