A petition for the President and Congress of the United States to preserve the Union:
To affirm that this nation, conceived in liberty, dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal, shall endure: With malice toward none, with charity for all, with firmness in the right, to ensure that the 360,000 Union dead shall not have died in vain; to preserve our nation's new birth of freedom; and to resolve again that government of the people by the people for the people shall not perish from the earth.
