Multinational corporations, foreign interests and academia lobby in favor of the U.S converting to the Metric System. As a result laws are now in place which encourage use of the Metric System and in some cases require it.
The U.S. is the largest most industrialized economy in the world with centuries of infrastructure built using U.S. Customary. Complete conversion to Metric is not possible. While conversion may save multinational corporations some money, consumers, small business and tradesmen will bear the cost by having to purchase new tools, stocking parts in both systems, making adaptations for Metric parts, unwieldy conversion factors such as 2.54, 453.592. and 0.946353, and equipment failure to due erroneous conversion.
