Whereas marijuana is a widely used recreational drug with no evidence showing it poses any more danger to communities than Alcohol or Nicotine; the criminalization of marijuana has done untold damage to many lives (and communities) of those who have chosen to use it.
And whereas U.S Bureau of Justice statistics shows Whites and People of Color (POC) use marijuana at similar rates, POC are disproportionately targeted, charged, convicted and incarcerated for its usage. The devastating effects to the families and future generations of those convicted are immeasurable.
Therefore, We the People ask President Obama to commute the sentences or provide pardons for all people incarcerated solely for marijuana offenses.
Anything else is an unjust violation of their civil liberties.
