Mr. President, I understand your reservation with regards to the bill, and how it can expose US interests overseas to lawsuits. But haven’t we already fought in several wars because of what happened on 9/11? Isn’t it better to go after the real culprit and not their foot soldiers? The real precedent that this bill will create is that it will open the way for other countries that are affected by terrorism to sue the sponsors of the hate ideology. Even if signing this bill would represent a perturbation to the way diplomacy is conducted, it is still better to fight in a court of law as opposed to fighting a physical war. Even if Saudi Arabia objects, we are not a weak country and we can stand our ground. We should not allow them to influence how we implement justice.
