We the people ask the federal government to Take or explain a position on an issue or policy:

President Obama, please appoint judges to fill the 58 lower court vacancies during the senate recess on January 3rd.

Created by L.G. on December 29, 2016

This petition is important for all the cases being held up in the US courts due to judge vacancies. The republican congress refuses to vote on the current nominations that the President has put forward which is putting an enormous strain on our judicial system. It is the right of the President to appoint judges, and they have taken that right away from him.
Recess appointments are governed by Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution, which states, “The President shall have the Power to fill up all Vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate.” Such appointments are temporary; unless ratified by the Senate, they only last through the end of the next term. Even if these judges are repealed, they can help with the case backlog during the next term. Please appoint the judges.
