Dear President Obama,
Many Americans have been moved by the gathering in North Dakota of more than 200 native tribes and other supporters for the cause of protecting the Missouri river from a crude oil pipeline.
This is the time to right an old injustice done to a native rights activist who was indicted with only circumstantial evidence in a controversial trial. When civil rights activists are wrongly imprisoned or killed, it spreads distrust and fear.
Dear Mr. President, imagine if you could have been the one to free Nelson Mandela.
Please pardon Leonard Peltier. He has spent almost 40 years in prison and no evidence shows his guilt. You still have time to let your legacy extend even farther and to offer a gift of peace and unity to our native peoples.
