The word 'spoon' makes more sense than 'fork' when referring to a place where a waterway splits in two. Rivers are made of water. Spoons can move water, unlike forks. A split is water moving away from a river, something an actual spoon can do, while a fork cannot. For mapping purposes, the Department Of the Interior should label all 'forks' in rivers, creeks, and other waterways as 'spoons' in future publications and printings. This policy will cost nothing, while greatly increasing clarity.
