Each election cycle, we are again forced to endure the spectacle of televised debates designed to appeal to the veritable Cro-Magnon among us. Awash in buzzwords and festooned with tautological talking points, these debates do little to advance argument or delineate substantial differences of policy between the candidates. They are simply bread and circuses.
And who would deny the half-addled among us the joy of seeing candidates fling pedantic metaphorical feces at one another? Certainly not the signers of this petition!
We merely ask, as upright-walking, critical-thinking, sentient adults, we get a tiny something, too.
We would like to see a televised essay contest. Two candidates. Two notebooks. Two pencils. And a big BINGO barrel full of questions. First 5 out get answered, live.
