Press Congress to Extend the Mortgage Forgiveness and Debt Relief Act of 2007

Every real estate short-sale form states that the difference between your mortgage (1st and/or 2nd) and the actual price your home sells for is reported to the IRS as income on their Form 1099. A percentage of this income is a tax to be collected by the IRS from Americans who desperately need debt relief. This tax can be levied by the IRS against Social Security payments, thereby dramatically reducing the amount of your Social Security check.
This petition asks President Obama to press Congress to extend "The Mortgage Forgiveness and Debt Relief Act of 2007" that expired at the end of 2013. Presidential and Congressional action will prevent this taxation of millions of Americans still struggling to get-out-from-under bad mortgages.
