pressure Congress to re-introduce and pass the VAWA (Violence Against Women Act) which they let expire during 2012.

Created by D.C. on January 05, 2013

The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) was introduced in 1994 as a part of the Clinton Administration. It provided money towards the investigation and prosecution of violent crimes against women, imposed restitution on those convicted, and allowed cases that prosecutors left unprosecuted to be re-addressed in civil court ("civil redress"). This bill was reauthorized for 18 years until 2012, where it was ignored. This petition aims to implore the Obama administration to pressure Congress to revisit this crucial piece of legislation.
