In the past Daylight Savings Time was an important way to reduce the usage of energy.
Today, we are a 24 hour society, and the benefits are eclipsed by the detriments. For at least two weeks a year, peoples schedules are thrown off. Workers are late to work, or if they are on time are less alert and irritable. People spend days complaining about it with their co-workers. Compare this to the Super Bowl, where only 30% of the country watches and only affects 1 day. 100% of the work force is impacted by DST.
Children are forced to walk to school in the dark because of DST.
People stay up after dark and through the night, jumping an hour in time doesn't affect their power usage.
