pressure the government of Japan to stop the annual slaughter & capture of dolphins in Taiji, Japan

Created by S.G. on January 20, 2014

Every year, beginning in September, the Taiji Whale Museum employs fisherman to conduct a dolphin hunt. They coral dolphins from across the area into a cove for several days. After carefully selecting the best dolphins to be sold into captivity, the remainder are slaughtered and sold as meat for human consumption. Dolphin meat is extremely high in mercury content and not safe for human consumption. This dolphin meat is often sold throughout Japan and even into Japanese schools, where the people do not know they are eating poisonous meat. We petition the Obama administration to engage the Japanese government and put political pressure on Japan to stop this inhumane dolphin hunt which they conduct on an annual basis.
