PRESSURE THE INDIAN GOVERNMENT TO CREATE STRICT LAWS AND PUNISHMENT FOR THE OFFENSE OF ALL TYPES OF RAPE

Created by R.S. on December 29, 2012

One woman is raped every 22 minutes in India. Official data show that rape cases have jumped 875% over the past 40 years from 2,487 in 1971 to 24,206 in 2011.

Current Issues with Rape laws in India

-Marital rape is not recognized as a punishable crime. A person forcing sex on his/her spouse can only be punished for domestic violence.

-After a rape has been reported, doctors perform a procedure known as the "finger Test." It is the practice and process to determine the "laxity" of the victim's vagina and to decide is the victim is "habituated to sex." This test does not offer any relevant evidence to the rape, but instead the results are used by defense lawyers to discredit the testimony of unmarried rape victims during trial.

-There are 1500+ rape trials pending in the country
