Dear President Obama, I beseech you to clearly and forcefully communicate to President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo of Indonesia during his upcoming visit to Washington to stop his country's annual slash & burn method of clearing land for palm oil production!
This year forest fire has resulted in smog that has spread from Sumatra and Kalimantan to Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines for months already. The air quality has deteriorate to such an extent resulting in death of 10 Indonesian and causing respiratory illness across the 5 countries.
I urge your administration to withhold investing in Indonesia until Indonesia take concrete actions to stop their annual practice of slash & burn method of land clearing. Thank you. Regards, Michael Chai
