We urge President Obama to publicly state his opposition to criminalizing homosexuality in Uganda, Russia, and elsewhere. The government of Uganda is once again poised to pass a law that would criminalize an entire set of people merely for their biologically-determined sexual orientation. President Obama has a rare chance to weigh in and use the influence of his own popular personality and the office of the Presidency to help persuade President Museveni to not sign this law which would be a frightful step backwards, away from human rights in East Africa.
We also urge the President to use his bully pulpit to encourage Americans on all sides of the gay-rights debate to always support human rights in all nations.
