On June 28, 2012, Sr. Megan Rice, 82, Greg Boertje-Obed, 57, and Michael Walli, 63, admittedly trespassed onto the Y-12 property in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
The peaceful activists cut through chain-link fence while approaching the property before hanging banners and spray-painting pacifistic slogans before surrendering peacefully to police around 4:30am. The Department of Justice, against a petition, then proceeded to increase the charges from "damage to Y-12" to further include "damage to federal property" and "trespassing on federal property", carrying punishments of up to 1, 5 and 10 years, respectively. In December 2012, the US further increased the charges to include sabotage, dropping the initial trespassing charge and bringing the total punishable time to 35 years.
