The term "Redskins" is an undoubtedly racist term. It is doubly shameful that the team that plays in our country's capital is represented by such an offensive term.
In recent years, teams around the country have changed their names (St. John's Red Storm, Marquette's Golden Eagles) and a number of others have retired their offensive mascots. States like Oregon and Wisconsin have made laws to ban Native American mascots in public schools.
In this day and age our country needs to unify, not discriminate against a portion of our population. We ask that the White House pressure the Redskins owner and speak out publicly to change their name and logo.
