Bangladesh is descending into anarchy under Hasina govt turning the country to one party rule by silencing opposing views. Extra-judicial killings, abduction, murder of journalists & opposition figures are rampant. Regime set up Int’l Crime Tribunal. Ambassador-at-large Stephen Rapp, UN, HRW, Amnesty, Int’l Bar Association and other agencies expressed serious concern that such courts are in violation of Int’l laws.
Instead of trying the true perpetrators of 1971 war crimes, this court is being used to silence opposition figures. Regime is organizing massive rallies, utilizing govt apparatus to pressure judge for the death penalty while opposition rallies are being crushed. We appeal to the Obama govt to pressure the Bangladesh govt to reconstitute the tribunal based on Int’l standards.
