The International Dairy Foods Association and the National Milk Producers Federation are asking the FDA to change the definition of “milk” so that CHEMICAL SWEETENERS like aspartame and sucralose can be used as optional ingredients NOT LISTED ON THE PRODUCT LABEL.
If the FDA agrees, these HIDDEN ADDITIVES could also be included in several other dairy products WITHOUT REQUIRING ANY SPECIAL LABELING.
Since several new and recent studies link artificially sweetened drinks to a wide range of health threats, this is a singularly bad idea.
The FDA should be directed to deny this request.
