I recently came across a poster that is to be put up in over 50 subway stations in New York City starting next week. The posters show a picture of the 9/11 attack with the quote "Soon shall We cast terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers," a quote taken far out of context from the Qur'an. Becaue the Qur'an was written over 1300 years ago, not all of its passages are relevant today. This was written at a time when non-Muslims were a threat to the Islamic communities, so to "cast terror" meant to defend oneself against someone who might potentially be dangerous. In addition to slandering the Qur'an, this advertisement violates the right to the freedom of religion and will distastefully remind Americans of the 9/11 attacks as a way of promoting hatred against innocent people.
