As of 2011, 48 % of Americans are poor and living in poverty. Programs such as Medicaid, Medicare, and the Food Stamp Program are all that stands between starvation, and the inability to pay for medications that are needed to improve quality of life. Already struggling to pay bills on a delinquent minimum wage, cutting funding from these programs will without a doubt cause more harm to a good half of the people in this nation. Instead, reduce the amount spent on the current wars and bring troops home.
War is not productive, but destructive. We are not in immediate danger, therefore do not need to spend massive amounts of money we don't have on occupying Iraq and Afghanistan.
In closing, snipping from a fat budget is needed, but not from programs needed for millions to survive.
